Script Trends

There are no shortage of screenwriters and decent scripts out there. The problem is, if you are any good, how do you get the word out about your really hot script to the right people? Agents and producers are the only ones who can really help you.
The challenge is they are overwhelmed by people.

Enter the black list - What started off as a Christmas holiday list by a keen intern at Leonardo DiCaprio's company has morphed into an 'honours' list. Get your script on the black list now, and your mates will practically start saying you have won an award. Better yet, top agents and producers will sit up and take notice.

Socially conscious filmmaking

Film making that embraces important topics, seen very often in British and independent films. There are many growing number of films which are made by politically and socially aware filmmakers.

Distribution Trends

It used to be that self distribution meant getting a van, a bunch of fly posters, and hitting the road.A few days before you pulled up to a town, an advance person would leaflet the place, and when you arrived you would do some local radio, screen your film at the local rep cinema, collect the box office(minus the venues share) sell T-shirts, posters , Cd's and whatever else you think you could sell and then hit the road again. HOWEVER...
It's all changing now thanks to crowd sourcing websites, and the advantages offered by internet distribution.

General Trends

As the blacklist has come to mean a great deal in the script world, sites such as 'top 100 things to watch in 2013' are trending and practically tell the audience what to watch. However with only an exact amount of films in the cinema per week, the choice you make on what you are going to watch is technically been narrowed down for you.

Alternative content in cinema

Digital and 3d screens are being installed in many British cinemas in a trend which will sweep the world due to the new technology being created. Digital screens allow cinemas to show alternative content. In the UK we are already able to watch sporting events, opera and ballet in cinemas.

However could independent cinemas end up turning into typical british places such as pubs with drinks, networking and movies?...

Social Networking

It is consider if you do not have a twitter and Facebook account you are not in the 21st century! Social media is the way forward in terms of news, entertainment, advertising( cheaper), and blatent self promotion. ( easy way of many films to get free advertisement by the use of communication on social media sites)

Increased roles of festivals

Film distributors are increasingly using festival screenings to promote new releases of films.
For filmmakers seeking distribution, creating a buzz on the festival circuit is a must. It's the best way to attract distribution.

Role of remakes and Adaptions

Hollywood ran out of good ideas a while go. Now they rely on remakes and adaptions of successful comic books and novels. E.g Twilight, spiderman and Batman are shining examples.

Multi format simultaneous releasing

Cinema releases combined with DVD and internet releases on the same date will start to become more and more the norm.
